The Dominican Republic’s Hidden Gem – Puerto Plata

When I say Punta Cana or Santo Domingo, we automatically know they’re two major cities within the Dominican Republic. Whether you’ve been there or not, we’ve heard about them, maybe a little or a lot. Punta Cana is known for its coconut palms blue water with excellent all-inclusive resorts. Santo Domingo, the capital of the D R (as some call it for short) with that European feel. But if I say, Puerto Plata, what? Where is that? Oh, is that Puerto Rico, Mexico? Most of us may not know where it is. It is the getaway you’ve never thought of with its golden beaches: glorious mountains, powdery amber sand, and sparkling waters in the Atlantic, your seamless Caribbean destination.

THE BEAUTY

Located on the Northern coast, surrounded by two major airports, Gregorio is located east of Puerto Plata and Cibao, which is an hour south. It’s a fantastic treasure where you can jump, swim, repel and explore the 27 natural pools and the 12 onsite waterfalls. Perhaps known best for stunning beaches, Playa Dorada (Golden Beach), located on the east side, visitors can relax, golf, and enjoy delicious cocktails while soaking up the sun’s warmth.

A wild night on the town or fun-filled exciting sightseeing and activities, look no further you’re covered. If you want a little education visit the Amber Museum to learn about plants, insects, and other small creatures. You don’t want to miss Fort Sam Felipe; it’s the only remaining colonial structure and one of the first European forts for your history buffs. Were you looking for nightlife? You can make a fun evening out of it with several local spots. Big Lee’s Beach Bar, you can relax with the stunning sunsets and enjoy a night of karaoke.
