BEST LAKESIDE VACATION DESTINATIONS

When we talk about lakes, the first thing that usually comes to mind is tranquility. Then, of course, there’s hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, and getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Here is my list of some top lake destinations where you can unwind and create great lasting memories.  

SOUTH CAROLINA: LAKE MURRAY

Lake Murray is an excellent place for a family summer vacation. This manufactured lake offers paddleboarding, kayaking, boating, sailing, and endless water activities.  

If you’re looking for relaxation, enjoy the quiet side at Dreher Island State Park. Here you can relax on the sandy beach, swim, kayak, and paddleboard (available for rental). Campsites are available if you like camping, or you can rent waterfront villas.

WISCONSIN: GHOST LAKE LODGE

 The cheese state: Wisconsin is known for more than its cheese. This state offers over 15,000 lakes and lakeside getaway options. Ghost Lake Lodge is one of Wisconsin’s most beautiful vacation spots. 

This tranquil lake is one of the oldest historic resorts around.  

MISSISSIPPI: TOMBIGBEE STATE PARK, TUPELO

If you’re looking for an abundance of outdoor activities, and endless water sports, Tombigbee State Park in Lake Lee, Mississippi, is where you want to go. This lake features volleyball, hiking trails, disk golf, and other endless water sports.   

While you’re there, stop in nearby Tupelo, the birthplace of the King himself, Elvis Presley, to satisfy your hunger. This Southern city is known for its Southern fare and delicious BBQ. With all these attractions, it’s no wonder that this lake makes the perfect vacation spot.

NEBRASKA: LAKE MCCONAUGHY

Lake Mac, what is known to Nebraskans, boasts the state’s largest lake at 142′ deep. With over 20 miles of sandy beach, it is a favorite for those who want to relax on the shore or play in the water.

A mecca for those who love water sports, travelers from all over the Midwest come here to enjoy fishing or boating on the lake.  

Hiking and biking trails and several lodging options around the lake are available to enjoy.

CALIFORNIA: LAKE TAHOE 

One of the most famous lakes in the United States, this straddles two states, California, and Nevada, and is a favorite vacation spot. Though there is no wrong view from anywhere on this lake, the north side offers some of the best places to stay.  

Most resorts have golf courses and offer outdoor activities such as kayaking, swimming, and canoeing. You can also enjoy the lakeside sandy shores of Sand Harbor State Park. 

MINNESOTA: LAKE SUPERIOR’S NORTH SHORE

The land of 10,000 lakes, the name says it all. Here you will find hundreds of options for an unforgettable Minnesota lakeside vacation. 

NEW YORK: SARATOGA SPRINGS
