Experience DC’s Unique Outdoor Bar Scene at Metrobar – A Historic Railcar Turned Cultural Hub”

Looking for something unique outside of the typical nightlife setting? Metrobar has revolutionized the art and bar scene of DC since it opened its doors in 2021. To be more specific, the venue opened without doors since it began as an outdoor-only venue, to help people still be able to connect and socialize during COVID-19.

The refurbished old Metro car, which houses the bar, is set on an 11,000 square-foot outdoor venue, providing a breezy space for art installations, stage events, murals, and hanging out and spending time with friends over great drinks. The train not only provides an excellent spot for a bar that embodies the character of DC, but it is also a historic landmark.

After a few years of building success and having a fantastic outdoor, nightlife experience, Metrobar officially opened inside the railcar on July 12, 2023, with happy hour all day. The perfect excuse to go check out a fun cultural experience, meet new people, and try some craft cocktails and local brews. The venue opens every day at 4 pm and closes at midnight on Saturdays and Sundays. Very accessible; pets are welcome (on a leash), as are kids when accompanied by an adult until 8 pm, then it’s a 21 and older crowd.

In addition to its unique railcar setting, Metrobar stands out among other venues in DC with various events and interactions. It’s not just a place for drinks but a spot to appreciate local art and have an authentic experience with other people who value genuine interaction and sustainability. On the website, you can find a calendar of events ranging from jazz performances to karaoke nights. Thursdays are Trivia Night, where you can play various fun thinking games solo or in a group. Fridays are live music nights for a fun way to kick back after the work week and listen to some of DC’s up-and-coming musicians. The ample outdoor space also provides the perfect setting for various art installations, including murals, screen events, or stage performances. In short, something fun, artsy, and new is always going on here.

Serving only drinks, to satisfy your hunger, the bar partners with local food trucks for a rotating schedule for a wide variety of tasty bites, including authentic Ethiopian and South American cuisine, flavorful tacos, and good-old American burgers.

You can find the food truck schedule on the website. Remember that it changes frequently, so check your taste preferences beforehand!
