Okay, are you like me? Do you look at talk shows and ever wonder how ordinary people (non-entertainers) get on these shows, actually being interviewed by the show’s host? Well, I’m not going to lie. I have. In fact, every-time I tune in to watch shows such as Ellen DeGeneres, Kelly Clarkson, Wendy Williams, The Real, etc. (You get the drift.) Someone is being interviewed. Is it a contest, are the winners actually picked? However, they get on these shows; I’ve thought, “how would I act if it were me?” Who knows, with the influence of social media, it seems like a good way.
I’ve never been a social media fanatic; sure, I’m on it but wasn’t as active as I am now. Thanks to COVID, I’ve probably made a 360% turnaround. From checking it maybe once or twice a month to now checking it almost all day long. Yikes ☹. From Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook, they almost monopolize my entire day. It’s not posting; it’s commenting, practically every day on YouTube, Instagram; if I see anything interesting, then Facebook.
A while back, I was on my Instagram page, someone commented on a video I posted. I was going through the various posts, then one, in particular, caught my eye. I saw a post about Dirty Dancing; I don’t know about you – but I love that movie, one of my favorites. I commented on the time I was taking dance; it just so happened we were doing a performance to a song from the movie, Dirty Dancing (my dance teacher was wild about Patrick Swayze). To motivate us to move, she would tell us to move our hips like Patrick Swayze and dare not put him to shame. She even went as far as making the entire dance class rent the movie. (Easy for me – I had seen it too many times to count.)
Apparently, my lil ole comment got noticed! I received a message saying they liked my Dirty Dancing comment and If I would be interested in sharing it on the Kelly Clarkson show. My first thought, Really? Yeah, right – this is a Spam message. As I kept reading, it sounded legit; I’m thinking, how did they get my cell phone number? Still curious, I reread it; it mentioned the comment I made on Instagram. After I finished reading the entire message, I was asked if I would discuss this further via skype. Ultimately, I ended up doing a video, but they went with another topic.
So, to those of you out there wondering how to get on these talk shows, one way to go is definitely social media. Who knows, your next comment could be your calling. If so, when you get there, tell em Neckie says, “Hey.”
