Fun in Acapulco? Yes, no.

Yes, by far, Fun in Acapulco.   And no, not the Elvis Presley movie.  Those who are movie or TV buffs may know about the title from Elvis Presley or the TV series “The Love Boat.” After all, those two made this magnificent city in Mexico famous and embedded in our heads.   Acapulco is located on the west coast of Mexico and is one of the largest cities in the country.  Full of gorgeous beaches, bays of water, balmy temperatures, and an island, still with its original architecture, it is no wonder why thousands come to visit.

If you didn’t know, there’s an old and new people Acapulco.  The new Acapulco, built during the ’70s, is full of many hotels, malls, and resorts, more touristy and modernized.  Old Acapulco, you will find many of the buildings’ original architecture and the authentic Mexican look.  The mountains from a distance have a glimpse of houses on top of one another, which is truly breathtaking.  You will also find the city is still full of its culture, which makes it very appealing.

Still, Acapulco may not be as famous as other Mexican resorts, such as Cancun and Cabo San Lucas, to name a few.  One of the main reasons, unlike the others, is there are no direct flights from the United States; you would either connect in Houston or Mexico City, depending on where you’re originating. If you visit, you will notice that there’s a lot more traffic and people at the end of the week than at the beginning.   The reason for this, Mexico City is 3 ½ to 4 hours away, and the closest beach is in Acapulco.  Therefore, it’s not unusual for people to come down for the weekend.   For the most part, Acapulco is still full of its culture; although English is spoken, it’s not widespread in Old Acapulco.  As for the currency, the dollar is accepted probably more in the New Acapulco. Therefore, it’s best to go to the currency exchange once you arrive.

If you’ve ever been to Cancun or Cabo San Lucas and go to Acapulco, you will most likely notice the cultural difference.  Both will make you feel like you’re still in the states, whereas Acapulco, you will feel like you’re in Mexico.   The preference is yours. I’ve never been to Cabo or Cancun, so my next visit to Mexico will be one of the two.

I think my choice will be fun in Acapulco from what I’ve heard. But, of course, I will continue to remain neutral until then.
